Sustainable, Alternative Livelihoods for Farmer Communities Affected by Climate Change: Industrial Center

The Industrial Center consists of a garment factory, textile and apparel training center, Iron and Aluminium fabrications production center, Iron and Aluminium fabrications production training center, and a hand loom production center. This center will facilitate alternative livelihoods for 270 farm families and provide vocational training and thereby increase access to non-farm job opportunities to the youth of the community. This facility, through the partnerships with UNDP Sri Lanka, World Food Program, Ministry of Mahaweli Development & Environment, Provincial Ministry of Industry Development, National Enterprise Development Authority, Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Garment and the Divisional Secretariat, provides the marginalized demographics of Walapane – women and youth – climate resilient livelihoods, secure income sources and a brighter future.
